Former Canoe Lake Cree First Nation Chief remembered
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) Executive is offering prayers and condolences to family and friends following the recent passing of former long-time Canoe Lake Cree First Nation (CLCFN) Chief Guy Lariviere.
Lariviere was first elected Chief in 1992 and held that position for 16 years and was also on council for four years.
“He was a great leader and we want to take this opportunity to truly thank him for his hard work, guidance, leadership and commitment to the membership of Canoe Lake during his two decades as Chief and as Councilor” Canoe Lake Chief Francis Iron said in a media release. “His dedication to our community will be forever remembered as he was instrumental in the successful negotiations of Canoe Lake’s Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) Agreement. His leadership will be truly missed by our community, now and into the future.”
In the statement, the FSIN Executive, Senate and staff said they were truly saddened to learn of the passing of Lariviere.
