Union fined for violating court order in Regina refinery labour dispute

REGINA — A judge has fined Unifor $100,000 for violating a court order that set limits on its picketing of Regina’s Co-op refinery.

The judge found the union intentionally and deliberately disobeyed an interim injunction limiting the time members could hold up traffic going in and out of the plant.

Police arrested and charged 14 Unifor members late Monday for allegedly blocking access to the refinery.

The court ruling came as labour leaders from across Canada joined a rally in support of the more than 700 workers at the facility.

Unifor secretary-treasurer Lana Payne says members will continue to hold the picket line.
