The Saskatchewan RCMP have released some of the highlights from this year’s National Safe Driving Week.

One of these highlights involved a driver in Prince Albert who received just over $1,300 in fines for a variety of offences. RCMP said the driver was recorded going 54 kilometers per hour in a 30 km/h school zone. After being pulled over, police found the driver did not have a valid licence or vehicle registration and there were numerous cracks in the windshield. An infant was also in the vehicle in a booster seat which was not secured in the vehicle nor were the straps tightened.

Another one of the highlights saw a driver in the southwest corner of the province near Kindersley for driving 183 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 7. This driver got a fine for just over $1,000.

A third highlight saw a driver pulled over near Balgonie, east of Regina after they were seen drifting out of their lane. The driver was found to be holding a tablet on the steering wheel as they tried to log on to a conference call while driving. This netted the driver a fine of nearly $300.

From Dec. 1 to 7, RCMP officers in Saskatchewan targeted drivers suspected of driving while impaired or distracted driving. According to RCMP during this period over 10,000 vehicles were checked and over 2,000 road safety charges were issued ranging from speeding to careless driving.
