We are expanding our Wheels of Hope Program to Prince Albert in early 2020! The Wheels of Hope program offers rides to patients to and from their cancer treatments. This program would not be possible without the volunteer drivers who make it a reality.

When someone is facing a life-threatening illness, it’s critical that they can get to every one of their appointments stress free. That’s why Wheels of Hope has set out to make sure that people don’t get left behind. Wheels of Hope delivers the largest volunteer-provided ride program in North America.

By supporting Wheels of Hope, you are providing an essential and potentially life-saving service. Not only that, you’re bringing relief, ease, and real support when people facing cancer need it most.

As a volunteer driver you will be driving one day a week (Monday through Friday) and a vehicle will be provided for you to transport clients. The program will be supporting clients receiving treatment in Saskatoon and you will be driving clients from Prince Albert to Saskatoon for the day.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wheels of Hope Transportation program offers rides to treatment for clients who are currently living with cancer. This volunteer role will support the program by safely transporting cancer clients to and from cancer related treatments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to requests for client rides from the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Confirm travel arrangements with client(s) by phone the day/evening prior to the appointment
  • Provide client rides with the use of a provided vehicle
  • Offer minimal assistance to clients as they enter and exit your vehicle (no lifting required)
  • Follow safe driving procedures
  • Provide up-to-date license
  • Accept and manage ride schedules within the database (Novus) – regularly
  • Become familiar with the programs and services provided by the Canadian Cancer Society and refer clients to appropriate resources as needed
  • Adhere to all Canadian Cancer Society policies, procedures, standards and guidelines including client confidentiality and our 100% smoke & drug free policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a valid class 5 driver’s license (no graduated driver’s license), vehicle registration, and insurance
  • Hold an acceptable driving record (no more than four demerits) and provide a five-year driver’s abstract
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Non-smoker
  • Must be age 21 or older
  • Must have access to home computer, -intermediate computer skills, and willingness to learn ride scheduling system – Novus
  • Completion of volunteer driver training and orientation

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Friendly and compassionate and has previous experience in customer service
  • Reliable and comfortable with highway driving to Saskatoon and driving within the city and during rush hour traffic
  • Comfortable working with individuals experiencing health related stress
  • Respectful of client confidentiality
  • Positive attitude and open to cultural differences
  • Ability to interact with staff and volunteers in a team environment
  • Good highway driving capabilities

TIME REQUIREMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • One-year minimum commitment
  • One day a week (Monday – Friday), availability between -7:30am and 5:00pm
  • Will be driving to Saskatoon for the day
  • Orientation and staff support provided
