Bill to ratify new North American trade deal coming in short order: Trudeau

Dec 11, 2019 | 9:58 AM

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will move quickly to approve the updated North American free trade deal.

Trudeau says he has given his personal promise to U.S. President Donald Trump and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador the Canadian ratification process will proceed as fast as possible.

The three countries put the final touches on the renewed continental trade pact in Mexico City this week but now the deal must be ratified in each country.

Trudeau says his government is looking at the parliamentary calendar to find a time to introduce the necessary legislation, but did not commit to it happening before the end of the year.
