The Canadian Cancer Society in Prince Albert is putting on an annual fundraiser with a different twist.

Thursday at the Gateway Mall the organization put on a Naughty or Nice fundraiser. Charlene Bernard, development officer with the cancer society explained they decided to try something new as this year’s fundraiser marks a milestone.

“For 29 years we did Jail and Bail and for the 30th we’re celebrating with a new twist,” she said.

Similar to Jail and Bail, participants are brought in, but instead of being brought before a judge, they are brought before Santa who decides how much money has to be raised to get the persons name off the naughty list.

Bernard said they were hoping to raise $7,000. She added the money brought in will help the cancer society provide some important services.

“It’s going to help our programs for cancer patients and their families, like peer support and our volunteer driver program, our Wheels of Hope, which we’re hoping to expand soon into Prince Albert,” she said.

Bernard said it was a bit quieter than in previous years. Thursday afternoon around $5,000 had been raised. Bernard said Tim Green from Mann-Northway Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac was able to raise just over $2,000 after the dealership matched the donations. By the end of the day Bernard said they expected to have around 10 people take part. Thursday evening, the cancer society confirmed they had raised $5,146.
