Fajardo on depth chart ahead of crucial clash with Edmonton

Rider Nation can breathe a collective sigh of relief — at least for the time being.

Saskatchewan Roughriders starting quarterback Cody Fajardo is listed as the starter on the depth chart sent out by the club Friday morning for Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Eskimos.

While it’s good news Fajardo is on the depth chart, it remains to be seen if or how much he will play in the contest. Kickoff at Mosaic Stadium is set for 2 p.m.

Questions about Fajardo’s availability came to light Thursday after it was revealed by head coach Craig Dickenson that the 27-year-old quarterback pulled a back muscle during a closed practice the day before.

Fajardo, who is the team’s most outstanding player nominee, has led the team to a 12-5 record and a home playoff game.

The Roughriders can earn the right to play host to the West Division final with a win over the Eskimos. If Saskatchewan loses, it can still clinch top spot in the West with a Calgary Stampeders loss or tie later Saturday against the B.C. Lions.

More to come.
