Adamko cousins team up for six touchdowns in Crusaders’ first win

The Carlton Crusaders cousins teamed up to deliver some massive points in their first senior high school football victory of the season.

Quarterback Ryan Adamko and receiver Justin Adamko combined for the half dozen touchdowns in the Crusaders’ 47-14 victory over the E.D. Feehan Trojans Thursday at Max Clunie Field.

“They’ve been central figures for us,” Crusaders head coach Lindsay Strachan said. “We kind of converted Justin, he was a DB [defensive back] last year, but I stole him a bit on offence. He’s doing a good job for us. Ryan’s been throwing the ball and running the ball hard all year. They’re doing excellent for us.”

Ryan Adamko started the game with a pair of touchdown rushes from 34 yards and three yards out to give the Crusaders a 14-0 lead with 3:44 remaining in the first quarter. Then, he found receiver Justin Adamko for a 56-yard pass and catch to extend the lead to 21-0 near the end of the opening frame.

Justin then scored twice more, a run from 10 yards out to start the second quarter, and a 90-yard kickoff return to begin the third quarter and give the Crusaders a 33-7 lead.

Ryan Adamko punched one in on a quarterback keeper from three yards out to push the Crusaders up to a 39-7 score, with 9:14 left in the third quarter. The Crusaders cruised the rest of the way and took a 46-14 victory.

“We were looking to execute in all three phases, and yeah, we were good tonight,” Strachan said. “That’s fun. That’s good for the guys. They’ve been working hard, and it’s nice to get one under the belt here.”

The Crusaders picked up their first win of the year, as they wrap up their regular season next Thursday at the Canadian Tire Classic against the St. Mary Marauders. The Marauders won the first six crosstown classics between the two teams, before the Crusaders won their first last season.
