Quick drop in temperatures expected for the weekend

Sep 26, 2019 | 12:05 PM

The rose coloured glasses will be taken off as we enter the second-half of September.

A significant plunge in the mercury is expected for this weekend.

“There is a very strong low-pressure system that’s going to develop in the Wyoming area,” Meteorologist Kyle Fougere, with Environment and Climate Change Canada said. “As that large low-pressure system spins up, it’s going to drag cold air down across the Prairies. That’s going to give us much colder temperatures for the weekend.”

Up until this point, the weather is September has been quite tropical.

Fougere indicated the month has been exceptionally warm with many days above 20 Celsius. All that warm weather had Prince Albert and area residents enjoying temperatures two to 2.5 degrees warmer than normal.

Going back to Sept. 16, Prince Albert set a daily-record high of 30.8 C. Meaning, a potential –6 C forecasted for the weekend would be a temperature difference of nearly 37 C.

Environment Canada explained that vast temperatures swings are quite normal for this time of year and that the particularly warm days this month may make the ‘cooling-off phase,’ feel colder than usual.
