Shooting suspect denied bail

Sep 11, 2019 | 2:08 PM

Citing a lack of confidence in a shooting suspect’s ability to abide by court conditions, a judge has denied her bail Wednesday morning.

Sherilyn Naytowhow, 24, appeared via video at Prince Albert Provincial Court. She is one of two people charged from a shooting incident on Aug. 27. Her charges include careless storage of a firearm and two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Despite her lawyer’s best attempts to propose conditions that would minimize any public concern about Naytowhow being released from custody, Judge Steven Schiefner denied her request. He explained he had no confidence Naytowhow could abide by the suggested conditions if released on bail.

The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Marquis Road East. Police said at the time there were two vehicles involved, and the incident was gang-related. The 18-year-old female victim, who was found by police in the area of the Carlton Skate Park, was taken to hospital in stable condition.
