Aces go to semis after pitcher’s duel

Jul 21, 2019 | 11:04 AM

The Prince Albert Aces suffered their first loss of the Under-16 A Girls Softball Provincials, but only by the narrowest of margins against the Saskatoon Phantoms.

The Phantoms squeaked by with a 1-0 victory over the Aces, handing them their first defeat of the tournament.

The Phantoms scored the only run in the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Aces pitcher Erin Kirkland went the distance, scattering six hits throughout the seven inning game. The run she surrendered also resulted from an error.

The Aces aren’t out of the tournament, as they will head to the semifinals at 1:30 p.m., taking on the winner between the Regina Royals and the Moose Jaw Ice. The Phantoms will face the winner of that match in the finals at 4 p.m.
