KidzFest forced indoors

Jul 18, 2019 | 3:41 PM

Weather forced an impromptu change to this year’s KidzFest in Prince Albert.

With rain and lightning in the forecast organizers made the call to move the festivities indoors to the Kinsmen Arena. Rayanne Buller, playground program coordinator with the City of Prince Albert said the change didn’t appear to put a damper on the day.

“I think everybody’s here smiling, everybody’s got face paint, everybody’s happy,” she said.

Inside the arena a number of activities were on offer, ranging from an inflatable jumping castle to a magic show. One of the more unique sites was a performer walking around on stilts.

The city was not alone in putting on the event, as members of Parkland Ambulance, the Prince Albert Fire Department and Prince Albert Police Service were on hand greeting people at the door. Parkland was offering kids blue balloons and saw many kids taking up the offer.

Buller said the collaboration with the emergency services is an important part of what they do.

“Even during our playground program, they come and visit the kids to let them know they’re here to help, so that kids have some good role models in our communities,” she said.

All of the activities were free to take part in, while the food options were cheap, with hot dogs going for 50 cents. Buller said making the event accessible is something that is important.

“It’s super important for all the families in the community to have a day where they come and its not super expensive,” she said.
