Another option in the fight against vandals

Homeowners in Prince Albert have another tool at their disposal in the fight against graffiti.

This summer, Bylaw enforcement is offering the student graffiti program, which gives property owners the chance to have graffiti painted over free of charge. Bylaw Manager Suzanne Stubbs said it is important to deal with graffiti as soon as possible.

“It’s really important to remove graffiti off the property. It just kind of shows people in the area that you care about your property and you’re monitoring it,” she said.

Stubbs said when graffiti is dealt with in the first 72 hours by a property owner there is a smaller chance of that property being targeted in the future.

The summer student graffiti program is only open to residential property owners in the city. Stubbs said people can submit an application for the service. If bylaw gets a complaint or sees property that has been vandalized, the property owner will be referred to the service.

This is the third year the program is being offered. Stubbs said she hopes more residents will make use of the service.

“Maybe last year we did about 12, but I’d like to see that grow,” she said.
