Fresh off returning home from the prestigious Brick Invitational hockey tournament in Edmonton, Prince Albert’s Brady Keith was already back on the ice Monday honing his skills.

Keith’s team, the Regina Junior Pats, were winless in six games, but Keith scored one of his team’s three goals throughout the tournament. The goal came in the team’s second game Monday against the Chicago Junior Blackhawks.

“We were on the power play, and my friend went up for a slapshot and I tipped it in,” he said.

Despite his team’s record at the Brick tournament, Keith said he learned a lot during the week and during the weeks leading up to it. He had spent hundreds of hours training, while maintaining straight A’s in school.

“In order to play well, you have to make sacrifices,” he said.

Some of those sacrifices have included giving up junk food, and sitting on the bench while his lacrosse team, the 82’s, played in the city playoffs and won the Novice Championship. Brady’s dad Kevin Keith was in the stands at the Brick tournament and said the whole family was very proud of him.

“He’s worked hard and sacrificed an awful lot already to get to this point so we are really proud and he played well,” he said.

Brady has now set his sights on making the cut for the Pee Wee AA Knights team this fall.

The Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament is the premier tournament for 9-10 year olds and has hosted over 100 future NHL players. The tournament ran July 1 through 7 at West Edmonton Mall.

The tournament was won Sunday by the Connecticut Jr. Rangers who defeated the Alberta Brick team 3-2 in the final.
