Keith the only P.A. player heading to the Brick tournament

For more than half of his life, Brady Keith has dreamed about playing in the Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament.

It’s the premier tournament for 9-10 year olds and has hosted over 100 future NHL players. Alex Pietrangelo, who just captained the St. Louis Blues to their first Stanley Cup, played in the Brick, as did Auston Matthews, Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews and Calgary Flames’ Johnny Gaudreau—who’s Brady’s favourite player.

Starting on Canada Day, Brady will live out his dream and play in that very tournament his hero ‘Johnny Hockey’ and many other stars played in, from July 1-7 at the West Edmonton Mall.

“It’s extremely exciting. He’s worked long and hard to be on this team and to be a part of the big Brick tournament in Edmonton,” Brady’s father Kevin Keith said. “It’s been a dream of his for a few years. He’s worked hard and he’s earned his spot. He’s excited and so are we.”

It’s not like Brady just joined a Prince Albert team and tagged along with them on their way to the tournament. The only team out of Saskatchewan that goes to the Brick Tournament are the Junior Pats out of Regina. So Brady tried out for the team back in September and became the only Prince Albert player to make it.

“I really wanted to play in it,” Brady said. “Ever since, I’ve been working hard just to play in it.

“I wanted to play with kids all around the world and to have a big experience with the big tournament,” added Brady. “And see what better players, some that made the NHL, have gone through.

Brady already plays hockey in the winter time and in the spring, but has put in hundreds of extra hours on top of all that to get to that point. Kevin said his son went into power skating and skills camps.
