Raiders sent to Edmonton with a special send off

The Prince Albert Raiders are on their way to Edmonton for games three and four of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The series heads to Edmonton knotted up at one game apiece. Before the team boarded their bus, which got an escort out of town from police and Parkland Ambulance, players high-fived fans who had lined up along the road outside the arena.

A number of P.A. fans are planning to make the trip to Edmonton to support the team on the road, with a team organized fan bus set to leave Tuesday morning.

Alvin Parenteau is one of the fans who will be riding the bus, he told paNOW it’s a good time to watch the team.

“It’s good and exciting hockey that they’re playing, they had a good series, that series against Saskatoon was awesome and you know this is a good start to the series and I am hoping the Raiders are good on the road,” he said.

Heading into the next two games the ideal outcome for Parenteau would be for the Raiders to take both games on the road, which would give them the chance to finish up the series in five games.

“That’s what I am hoping,” he said.

Parenteau has been a long-time fan of the team and recalls the last time the team brought home the Memorial Cup. He said this year’s team is one of the best he’s seen.

“We’ve got good depth, like all four lines, we’ve got scorers on all those lines,” he said.

Another fan who is set to make the trip to Edmonton to support the Raiders is Kelly Jackson. Jackson will not be riding the bus, but instead plans to drive herself.

Jackson will be bringing a healthy family contingent to both road games.

“With the kids out of school this week, we bought tickets for Tuesday night’s game and Wednesday night’s game for each of us, so they’ll be five of us going each night,” she said.

Jackson added right now is a good time for people to travel to take in a game and expects to see a number of families make the trip.

“I think with spring break on, there’s probably going to be a lot of families who are probably going to take their kids, like I am doing with my grandkids,” she said.

Jackson, who has a nephew who works for the Raiders, felt the team deserved lots of credit for working to organize a bus to get the fans to Edmonton so many could watch the game.

“I think it’s great,” she said.
