Sask. Polytech celebrates new graduates

Jun 11, 2016 | 11:33 AM

A local tertiary institution took time to send off its graduates into the world.

Cheers from friends and families filled the E.A. Rawlinson Centre on Friday June 10, as over 200 graduates from the Prince Albert Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus walked across the stage during their convocation ceremony.

Students who graduated come from all walks of life. One student, Jeannine Soderberg, graduated with a certificate in office education.

“I am proud because I am a single mother of three,” she said. “I went back to school after ten years so I am pretty happy.”

While some graduates still hope to get a good job after today, Ankush Goyal, a graduate with a business certificate has already secured a job with the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.

“I feel awesome,” Goyal said. “Finally, we are done with our course.”

The school graduates approximately 300 students at each campus in Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon according to president and CEO Larry Rosia.

“This is sort of the highlight of our academic year when we get to graduate a group of students to go out into the industry to do what they do best,” he said.

From helping residents in the city through their carpentry skills to helping host Alberta evacuees, Rosia said he is proud of this year’s graduates.

“Go forward and make your mark in your respective fields, communities and our world,” he advised.

“Have a lot of confidence in yourselves, dream big, do anything and be anything you want to.”
