Four Raiders named on WHL all-time list

Sep 22, 2015 | 5:01 PM

The Western Hockey League released their top 125 players of all time list on Tuesday, including four Prince Albert Raiders.

The Raiders included are Mike Modano (1986-1989), Dan Hodgson (1982-1985), Chris Phillips (1995-1997) and Leon Draisaitl (2012-2014).

Modano is the first and only player to have his number retired by the Raiders as his No. 9 hangs proudly in the home end of the Art Hauser Centre. Modano was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2014.

Modano and Hodgson are the only two Raiders to record eight points in a single game.

In fact, Hodgson owns just about every offensive record for the Raiders including goals, assists and points in both the career (188, 305, 493) and single season (70, 119, 182) categories.

Phillips is the last Raiders player to have been drafted first overall in the NHL Entry Draft, doing so in 1996. Modano was the first in 1988.

Draisaitl is one of just four European players included in the WHL all-time list. The others are Slovakian and current NHL’er Marian Hossa, Czech forward Pavel Brendl and Danish forward Oliver Bjorkstrand.

The WHL will announce the Top 50 in January, after fans will get a chance to have their say with an online vote in October.
