Clegg among 19 Raider prospects reassigned after Monday’s intrasquad game
When 15-year-old Garrett Clegg scored a laser beam wrist shot during the Prince Albert Raiders main camp scrimmages on Saturday, Raiders new general manager Curtis Hunt nodded in approval.
“He’s a seventh round pick, you know,” Hunt said as a point of pride.
That seventh round, 138th overall draft choice scored more goals than anybody did this week at Raiders camp. Clegg scored six goals in six total scrimmages across the rookie and main camps. He also scored the game-winner Monday in the Raiders Inter-Squad Game to give Team Gold a narrow 4-3 victory at the Art Hauser Centre.
“I knew that I could definitely compete with those early round picks, I know I have the skill level and the size to do that,” said Clegg, who scored 26 goals in 32 Bantam AAA games with the St. Albert Sabres last year. “I didn’t really look at the picks or anything like that. I just played my game and it seemed to work.”
