Jun 30, 2015 | 9:46 AM

The City of Prince Albert would like to advise the public that due to air quality concerns over heavy smoke in the City, all outdoor activities at City facilities have been cancelled until further notice. This includes activities at Kinsmen Water Park, City Sports Fields, paddling pools and spray parks, Cooke Municipal Golf Course and City parks. Air quality is being monitored on a day-to-day basis and an update will be provided once it is safe to resume activities.

For further health related information, please see the Air Quality Alert issued by the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.

An air quality alert is being issued by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health for areas experiencing heavy smoke.

Numerous wildfires are burning in the northern part of the province and producing smoke which has the potential to affect your health. Smoke can cause irritation of the eyes and throat. Persons with heart or
respiratory conditions can experience worsening of their symptoms.

Instructions during a heavy smoke event especially if you have heart and lung conditions:
Reduce or avoid physical activity outdoors
Consider remaining indoors with windows, doors and outdoor air circulation fans/vents closed;
If you have room air cleaners with HEPA filters, turn them on
Avoid tobacco smoke exposure
When you are in your car or truck, keep the windows closed and put the air system on ‘recirculate’

To avoid risk of overheating on hot days especially if you are keeping windows and doors closed without air conditioning:
Drink lots of cool water
Use fans to move air around inside the house.
Take cool showers or baths or use cool wet towels to cool down
Make meals that don’t use an oven, especially if you don’t have air conditioning
Go to an air conditioned place such as a shopping mall, library or community centre

Call or visit at risk family, friends or neighbours (especially seniors living alone) to make sure they are drinking plenty of fluids and keeping cool.
