Jobb sentencing pushed ahead for Gladue report

Sentencing has been pushed ahead for Jeremiah Jobb, who pleaded guilty to two counts of impaired driving causing death in a July 2013 accident that killed two women.

Jobb made an appearance and surprise guilty plea at Court of Queen’s Bench in Prince Albert on Friday morning.

He was accused in the death of Taylor Litwin and Brandi Lepine, who was pregnant at the time of the accident.

Jobb was driving a truck while intoxicated and hit the car Litwin was driving and Lepine was a passenger in, in the East Hill area, killing Litwin and sending Lepine to hospital where she later died.

It was expected that sentencing would move ahead this morning with both the Crown and defence agreeing to ‘a lengthy sentence’ according to defence lawyer Ron Piche.

However, the judge pointed out that any case with an aboriginal offender needs to take into consideration the Gladue principle.

This is a report submitted by probation services that outlines any alternatives to incarceration for those of aboriginal descent.

However, Piche stated afterwards outside the court that he felt the report was unnecessary in this case.

The judge has ordered the report be submitted to the court by Sept. 8 so it can be reviewed by all parties.

The sentencing hearing has been pushed ahead to Sept. 25.
