Rise Up Week

May 4, 2015 | 1:07 PM

In Canada, one in four women are abused  91% of whom are aboriginal.

These stats are appalling and we at “Rise Up-Prince Albert” want to do something to help change that. We are planning several events during the week of May 19th to May 22nd, 2015.

These events include:
May 19th 2015 – Social Media Challenge which encourages people to pledge and Rise Up Against Abuse towards Women. There is a concert at the Friendship Center. Red Ride Tour, a collective of Aboriginal musicians whose goal is to showcase the diverse talent of artists across North America in what is described as an electric community of culture will be there. We also will have a guest speaker to talk about Missing and Murdered Women.

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $20

May 19th, 2015 to May 21st, 2015 Presentations for High Schools – They will include speech from a survivor of abuse, as well as a specialist to talk about the effects of abuse on an individual. There will be age appropriate activities for Grade Schools so students can learn about bullying.

May 21st 2015 Free Self-Defense Seminar – Lucian Phillips from LDP will be running the one hour seminar at PACI field at 6:00PM. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

May 22nd 2015 is the The Walk of Hope – A walk to raise awareness about abuse towards women. The walk is from Prince Albert to Saskatoon (May 25th) then to Regina (May 29th). It starts at Prince Albert City Hall at 9:00 a.m. with talks and walk beginning at 10:00 a.m.
