Heavy spring snow, quick power outages hit central Sask.

Apr 26, 2015 | 1:07 PM

SaskPower crews were busy dealing with power outages caused by the heavy snow and ice buildup over the weekend.

Residents in Prince Albert reported outages within the city, and SaskPower tweeted about outages north of the city around noon on Sunday.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Saskpower’s reporting outages in P.A. rural, Christopher Lake, and Whapeton First Nation. Crews are on their way but they don’t know yet when power will be back on for affected people.

However, about an hour later SaskPower stated power was restored north of the city.

Around noon people were experiencing outages in the Cornerstone and East Flat areas.

Around midafternoon on Saturday, a traffic light near the Cornerstone area was still out.

Those areas were a few of many outages over the weekend.

A huge section of Saskatoon’s west side was plunged into darkness Saturday  after power was knocked out in 18 neighbourhoods.

Within Saskatoon, the City of Saskatoon dealt with the outages, which were traced to ice buildup at power supplies.

On Sunday, CKOM’s Lasia Kretzel showed some of the results from the heavy, wet snow overnight.

SaskPower crews were also busy around Dundurn, Lake Lenore, and St. Denis on Sunday.
