Mintos off to the Telus Cup, win Western Regionals
On both of their journeys to back-to-back Telus Cup victories in 2006 and 2007, then Prince Albert Mintos head coach Tim Leonard came up with the saying: “we’re happy, but we’re not satisfied” until they raised the national trophy.
That mantra still remains in the spirit of the Prince Albert Mintos, who beat the Notre Dame Argos 4-3 in the final to win the Telus Cup Western Regionals Sunday at the Art Hauser Centre.
“It’s funny because a lot of the guys were saying that today,” said Mintos head coach Ken Morrison during the Mintos’ on ice celebrations after the tournament title. “After the first period, ‘we’re happy, but we’re not satisfied,’ so we’ve been hearing it over and over again.”
The win gives the Mintos their first berth to the Telus Cup since 2007. In fact, the Mintos were 14-0 in their two national tournament victories.
