Raiders Announce Wall of Honor Inductees
The Prince Albert Raiders are pleased to announce the three individuals who will be inducted into the Raiders Wall of Honour for the 2013-2014 season. As nominated by the Raiders Alumni: Brad McCrimmon, and two builders selected by the Raiders Past Presidents: Jim Bristow and Doug Winterton. The three newest members of the Wall of Fame will be officially inducted prior to the Raiders home game on September 27th against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
McCrimmon spent two seasons with the Raiders from 1974 to 1976, recording 23 goals and 83 points and was a key part of the team that won the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League championship and the Anavet Cup in 1976, while receiving SJHL Defenceman of the Year honours as a 16 year old in that same year. The Plenty, Saskatchewan native then moved on to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Mccrimmon.jpgHockey League, eventually being selected 15th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft.
McCrimmon would play 1222 career games in the NHL, scoring 81 times and adding 322 assists from the blueline, as well as 1416 penalty minutes with the Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Hartford Whalers and Phoenix Coyotes, and retired following the 1996-1997 season. Highlights from his playing career include being selected to participate in the 1988 All-Star game and winning the Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989. McCrimmon currently sits 11th all time in NHL career plus/minus, finishing his career with an impressive plus-444 rating.
Following his retirement as a player, McCrimmon immediately began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach for the New York Islanders. He returned to his home province as the Head Coach of the Saskatoon Blades for two seasons before taking Assistant Coaching positions with the Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers and Detroit Red Wings. In 2011, he left the NHL to pursue a Head Coaching opportunity with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv of the KHL. He tragically passed away when the Yaroslavl team plane crashed on their way to their first game of the season.
