UPDATED: Land of the Loon Resort restaurant destroyed by fire

Jul 16, 2013 | 8:04 AM

An early morning fire has destroyed the Land of the Loon Resort’s restaurant on Anglin Lake Tuesday.

Owner Dylan Greening said the cause of the fire is not known. Little is left of the building that has been affected by the fire. Fire services were already on the scene when Greening arrived before 6 a.m.

“When I first arrived, it was engulfed, so it was hard to see what was destroyed,” Greening said. “But it was a wall of flames. You couldn’t see anything.”

Firefighters were still on scene hours later, monitoring the smouldering remains of the building.

“It basically looks like it’s completely destroyed,” Greening said.

The resort had residents staying there, and is near full, but no one was harmed.

Greening said they do plan to keep the resort open and operating even though the restaurant has been destroyed.

The restaurant has been there since 1998.

He said it’s a good, but small portion of the business, and they’ll be focusing on the marina and shop.

“We’ll have to sit down and go through our options,” he said. “Obviously the first step is to deal with the insurance company, and it’s just after eight (a.m.) here, so that’ll be the first thing we do.”

They don’t yet have plans for re-building the restaurant.
