Culture of music, family and diversity continues at Ness Creek Festival

Jul 14, 2013 | 12:03 PM

What began as a group of tree planters, a pasture, a make-shift stage and a few musicians more than 20 years ago has morphed into the Ness Creek Music Festival. When it starts on July 18 to 21, it will be one of Canada’s premiere events.

“Through the years there have been, of course, many changes but we have always tried to preserve the original culture of the event as we’ve grown from 200 to over 4,000 visitors. I really do think it’s part of what makes our event unique and special,” reflects Festival Organizer, Jaki French.

“It has been important to maintain a strong connection with families and people of all cultures and generations to come and enjoy Ness Creek together.”

Tickets are selling fast but some are still available.

“The weekend passes are a really good deal and we will be selling out of those pretty quickly. They are $120 and include camping while the day passes are only available at the gate,” French says. The tickets can be purchased online at the link below.

This year, the festival includes nearly 40 of the finest musicians Saskatchewan and the nation has to offer. It also hosts more than a dozen venues including an artisan market place, children’s area, amazing food, workshops, sharing circles and so much more.

“One of the things we are excited about this year is the expansion of the Cultural Ambassador program,” says French. “This program is in its third year, but this time has its own venue in our downtown. This is a place where newcomers to Canada, First Nations and Metis gather to share their culture, art and stories and has a wonderful atmosphere to it. This is particularly great for newcomers to come and experience Northern Saskatchewan.”

Ness Creek has an amazing webpage with all the information you need on venues, artists, tickets and directions. There is also information about volunteering and events through the year on the Ness Creek website.
