Minute Muffler marks its quarter century

Jul 11, 2013 | 1:34 PM

Minute Muffler has been in Prince Albert much longer than 25 years, but Thursday marked a very special day for owners Mark and Michele Matlock.

On July 11, 1988 they purchased the 205 17 Street West location from the previous owners and have stayed put ever since. It was also the same year their son Adam was born.

To commemorate the day and show appreciation for their customers, the location threw a barbeque lunch.

In fact, Matlock’s son Adam and daughter Amber were on hand serving food as they both work at Minute Muffler.

Adam is taking his journeyman electrician course while Amber is working in shipping and receiving.

It’s something that Mark Matlock isn’t sure will stick as they explore other career choices, so he isn’t pushing them to take up ownership after him and his wife retire.

Despite staying at the same location for their 25 years as owners, the Matlocks have seen plenty of changes. First, they’ve added four extra bays to a total of 10, and expanded their warehouse.

It was almost inevitable that they’d go bigger since they’ve added a lot more than the original muffler, exhaust and shock services. They now do fluid changes, brake, under-car work and oil changes.
