Local musician lives her dream

Sep 12, 2012 | 5:15 PM

To be able to seamlessly weave together life, family, work and art is a dream coming to reality for one Prince Albert musician.

Lucy James is well-known as a soloist, a former music teacher and a band member of All Mighty Voice. Jam Street Music Sessions is her latest venture – a new business located in the heart of downtown that will teach children and adults to play in a band.

“I’ve taught music in the school system for six years and four of those I taught Rock Band and that’s what Jam Street Music Sessions is. I will be teaching students to play in a band. All the instruments are here so you don’t have to lug things back and forth. You can just come here and play.”

While James is expecting musicians will come to her in groups wanting to learn to form a band, she also suggests her program is well suited to individuals wanting to learn to play an instrument in a band setting.

The program is primarily for students ages 10 and up, but James notes that she is definitely open to adults of any musical ability to come try her program.

The space is located on First Avenue West across from the A and W. For James, a supporter of downtown Prince Albert, it is the perfect location.

“I’m all for the downtown. I love the centrality of it with all the shops, music stores, coffee shops. The Rawlinson is right here and the ambiance is great. For us, the space was affordable and one where we can live upstairs and work downstairs.”

Jam Street Music Sessions is also available for studio rental for local musicians.
