P.A. Minor Hockey Tier one coaching staff announced

The Board of Directors of the Prince Albert Minor Hockey Association approved the recommendation of the Tier 1 Committee for coaches for the Midget, Bantam and Pee Wee teams for the 2011-12 season.

Shawn Phenauf will be the Head Coach of the Midget AA team, Frank Fazio the Head Coach of the Bantam AA team and Doug Hobson the Head Coach of the Pee Wee AA team. Phenauf coached the Bantam Venice House Pirates in 2010-11 while Fazio and Hobson are new appointments as Head Coaches in Tier 1.

“After a thorough and lengthy evaluation and interview process the Tier 1 committee, chaired by Peter Anholt, is extremely pleased to name Shawn, Frank and Doug as the Head Coaches of the respective teams”, said PAMHA President Rod Dallman. “Prince Albert Minor Hockey would like to thank Kim Dryka and Bill Hoko who have coached in the Tier 1 system for many years for their incredible dedication and loyalty to our organization. Both gentlemen made significant contributions to our program and we thank them for their commitment over many years.”

Here are profiles of the three Tier 1 coaches in PAMHA:

Shawn Phenauf – Midget AA
A graduate of the Prince Albert Minor Hockey Association, Phenauf moves up from Bantam AA where he led the Venice House Pirates to the Western Canadian championships this past season. The Pirates were the Centre Four League Champions, won the SHA Bantam AA crown as well as winning the Graham Tuer Bantam AA Challenge and Prince Albert Bantam AA Showcase tournaments.
Phenauf has been involved in PAMHA since 2000 as a coach at IP, Novice, Atom and Pee Wee House league levels.
Phenauf played all his minor hockey in Prince Albert including playing Pee Wee AA, Bantam AA and Midget AA before moving on to the Melfort Mustangs from 1988-91.

Frank Fazio – Bantam AA
While Fazio is a relative newcomer to Prince Albert and the PAMHA, he has been involved in hockey for many years and holds his High Performance I coaching level from Hockey Canada.
Fazio played junior hockey in Ontario and the Maritimes and played in the CIAU for the University of Waterloo. He was the Head Coach of the Brooks Outlaws Bantam AA team in the South Central Alberta Hockey League in2007-08, then the Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel with the Coaldale Copperheads in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League in Alberta from 2008-10.
Last season Fazio was an Assistant Coach under Phenauf with the Prince Albert Bantam AA Pirates.

Doug Hobson – Pee Wee AA
A member of the 1985 Prince Albert Raiders Memorial Cup Championship team, Hobson was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1986 NHL entry draft. He went on to a professional career with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the American Hockey League from 1988-90.
Hobson then became a Coach in the WHL with Victoria Cougars (Assistant-1990-94), Prince George Cougars (Head Coach – 1994-95), Red Deer Rebels (Assistant – 1996-97, Head Coach – 1997-98) and the Raiders (1999, but did not start the position after joining the Prince Albert Police Service).
Hobson returned to coaching with the PAMHA in 2004 with his children starting in IP. He has coached AAA Sask Can the past 4 seasons.
