Northern band members head to polls

An election is underway in northern Saskatchewan.

Members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band are voting for their Chief and council.

There are eight people running for Chief, including the incumbent Chief Tammy Cook – Searson.

Electoral Officer Charles Whitecap says there was a good turnout during the advance polls.

“For all the communities total was about 630 and for La Ronge/Kitsaki, we had about 353, I believe,” Whitecap said.

Whitecap said he should have the final election results late tonight.

A swearing in ceremony will be held Friday morning at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre in La Ronge.
