Extreme Makeover in P.A.

Mar 28, 2011 | 11:28 AM

New shoes, new clothes, new hair – a makeover.

A Prince Albert salon has started a contest to give two lucky people a full makeover and a night on the town.

The Extreme Makeover contest is being offered by Salon 6.

Meghan Mayer owns the salon with her husband and said they wanted to create this to do something good for the community.

“Our thing with Salon Six is to be a community salon and join up with other community businesses, local businesses and kind of join together,” Mayer said.

Mayer is from Prince Albert and so are all of the stylists and technicians at the salon.

People are being asked to nominate others who have been through a hard time or who need a bit of a pick-me-up to get back on their feet.

“Somebody that’s really gone through (or is going through) something in their life,” said Mayer.

Mayer said they decided on this criterion because everyone at the salon is about helping others.

“Our goal for the salon in coming years is to be able to help people, maybe people that have lost their jobs or whatever, just kind of get them back on their feet,” said Mayer.

The contest has several nominations in already.

“Mothers of young children and multiple children … there’s one that’s entered that has four kids under five and never gets out of the house, another is someone that serves and works in the community a lot and never has time for herself,” said Mayer.

The winners, male or female, will receive a new outfit and shoes, manicure, a new hair-do, makeup, a photo-shoot with the new look, lunch at Great Western Coffee and then will be picked up in a limo and taken for supper at Sopranos restaurant and eatery with a date.

The deadline for nominations is Mar. 30, the winners will be contacted Apr. 1, and the makeover will take place Apr 8.

Many local businesses are involved, Ted Matheson Men’s Wear, Calypso Bay, Katie’s Closet, Great Western Coffee, Sopranos restaurant and eatery, Frontrunner Footwear and Novotny Photography.
