Meeting Notes from the Community Networking Coalition’s Recent Round-Table
Meeting Notes from CNC Gathering, February 22, 2011
Despite the fact that the meeting coincided with the school February break and the start of the dog races as we were walking into the Arts Center (Central Avenue was closed that morning), we had a good turnout.
Round Table
New members in attendance were welcomed as we went around the table with updates and announcements.
Gen Klingenberg reported via e-mail that they have been travelling to many communities with the message that we all have the power to “save a life” by starting a conversation – the message is being well received and they have another 10 communities to visit. Gen thanked CNC members for their help and encouragement.
Fay Stupnikoff indicated that the CNC grant application has been recommended for funding so that we can continue operations. That was very good news. Thanks to everyone who sent in letters of support.
Launch of the New CNC Directory
All CNC members have received their new version of the CNC directory (electronic version) and an official presentation was made by CNC coordinator, Delphine Melchert to Merv Bender, Steering Committee Chairperson. Thank you for your feedback, it is a great resource. Updates will be done to keep the document current – please review your copy and let me know if you have any changes/edits on your information.
Presentation – The World is Becoming Smaller and Smaller – International Development by the “Worldoutreach” Group of Prince Albert – John Fryters
John gave us an amazing presentation about the areas of international development being undertaken by the “Worldoutreach” Group from our own community. It was a look at the bigger picture – as we so often get so wrapped up in the daily routine of our own lives that we fail to consider what people have to deal with in other parts of the world. John reminded us that it is often the simple things that can make a huge difference in the lives of people in developing countries and that we can extend a helping hand from right here in Prince Albert. He told us about the many people from Prince Albert who are working in international development at the same time as they are living and working right here at home. His theme of “The world is getting smaller and smaller” was a good illustration of the world view and a very good reminder of our responsibility to look out for each other beyond our own community as the wellbeing of each person is so interconnected.
Hannelore Fryters was also in attendance and she expanded on the work of the organization in building houses for people who live in deplorable conditions and how the simple construction and basic structures change lives for families.
The group had lots of questions, and the discussion was interesting and informative.
John was also joined by his son, Detlef who ran the technical part of the presentation and Jess Camalari who will be travelling with them to Peru and helping with translation.
