RCMP lay murder charges in connection to disappearance of Rob Vicente

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has laid first-degree murder charges against two men Saturday in relation to the disappearance of 25-year-old Rob Vicente, who was last seen in Davidson back in October.

Twenty-two-year-old Darak Andrew More from Saskatoon and 20-year-old Devin Riel Joseph Schmit from Fort Qu'Appelle were both arrested on Friday and charged with first degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Both men are said to have known the victim who went missing on Oct. 10, 2010.

RCMP Sgt. Paul Dawson credits the media exposure and tips from the public for helping with the case.

“The media kept this investigation on the front burner, and whenever you have that it gets out in the public and it stays current for the public and very likely it leads to information being provided by the public,” said Dawson.

“The public in this case not only provided a great deal of tips in this investigation, but they were also searching several different times since the disappearance. It's really an example of the police benefiting from that exposure and the tips that come in from the public.”

Dawson would not say which tips and information led to the arrests of the suspects on Friday. A search of a rural property in Davidson by the RCMP and their Forensic Identification Unit will begin Sunday.

Schmit and More will appear in court on Feb. 14 in Regina.
