Losses great from weekend fire

Feb 13, 2011 | 2:39 PM

The scene of an all-night fire that sparked just south of Prince Albert late Friday night, still has some hot spots today.

Emergency crews were called to Ace of Diamonds Paint & Body, just off Highway 2, at about 11:30 Friday night. The building was considered a total loss as firefighters continued to deal with flare-ups late into Saturday morning.

Fire crews expect to contend with hot spots even while the building is dismantled. Investigation into how the fire started has been held off until the building is safe to enter.

Jim Miller is the fire chief of Buckland Fire and Rescue and the owner of J D B Installations Inc., which has been in the building for about 20 years.

He said he won’t be able to get in to the building until the investigation is over on Monday but said “by the look of it we’ve lost everything we had in there.”

Book keeping files, shop equipment and even some personal belongings were all in the building at the time of the blaze. Miller said there was a lot of Buckland Fire Department’s material inside as the building served as somewhat of an office as well. Miller added it shouldn’t affect Buckland Fire too much.

“We have different sets of records so that’s not too bad and we have insurance on the fire department’s materials so that will be replaced,” Miller said.

“Normally were looking at someone else’s fire, not our own. We’ve seen the fire situation many times so were ok.”

Miller said it’s hard to know exactly how much was lost because a lot of times people don’t realize certain things are gone until they are needed sometime down the road.
