Search for the Stars is much more than a talent contest. It is an opportunity to grow and learn as a
performer. Auditions for Search for the Stars take place on Sunday, March 13 commencing at 11:00 a.m. They will be held at the Olive and John Diefenbaker Theatre at the E. A. Rawlinson Centre.

PLEASE NOTE: THE AUDITIONS WILL BE PRIVATE. PREREGISTRATION IS COMPULSORY.

Registration is by phone Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m from February 1 to March 11 at 12:00 noon.

WHO CAN ENTER
1.) CATEGORIES
Novice
-5-8 years of age as of June 30, 2011
Junior
-9-12 years of age as of June 30, 2011
Senior
-13-18 years of age as of June 30, 2011
Songwriter
-this category is for senior and junior performers only
2.) PERFORMANCE CATEGORIES
-Vocal, Dance, Instrumental, Band, Variety
3.) SEARCH FOR THE STARS RULES
1.) Past winners and participants in Search for the Stars are welcome to audition but must compete with a different performance piece than in previous Search for the Stars performances.
2.) Performers are permitted one audition per category (vocal, dance, instrumental, band, variety and the Songwriter Competition).
3.) Freedom 55 Financial Songwriter Competition This is a performance category which is open to
Junior and Senior Performers. A performer is permitted to enter in the Songwriter Competition with their own composition and also enter in the Vocal, Instrumental or Dance Category with other selections.If a group is performing a number which is entered in the Songwriter Competition, at least one of the performers must be the Songwriter.
4.) Performers are not permitted to audition more than once per category. (If you are entering as a solo performer for any category, you cannot also enter as a duo or trio in that category)
5.) Performers are permitted to enter as a soloist and also in a group of 4 or more people in the same category.
6) There is a 5 minute time limit per audition
7) Vocalists may be accompanied by backing tracks or live accompanist
8.) NO BACKUP VOCALS ARE PERMITTED ON THE BACKING TRACKS OR BY LIVE BACK UP SINGERS WHO ARE OVER THE AGE LIMIT OF YOUR CATEGORY.
9.) Instrumentalists are permitted an accompanist provided that the accompanist is playing a different instrument than the person who is auditioning (i.e. piano accompaniment for a violin solo) and if the accompanist is in the same age category.
10.) For groups, the age category is determined by the average age of the group: For example if the ages of members of a quartet are: 10, 10, 14, and 16, the average age is 12.5 so this group would be entered in the junior category
11.) Only live auditions will be accepted…no videos or tapes.
THE SEARCH FOR THE STARS EXPERIENCE
1.) Search for the Stars is first and foremost a learning experience designed to give everyone the opportunity to grow as a performer. Every person who auditions will receive immediate feedback from the judges. A written summary of comments will be sent by mail.
2.) Performers who are chosen to perform at the “Search for the Stars” Concert will be required to attend a workshop (free of charge) to enhance their knowledge in their field of performance.
They will gain valuable experience in performing at a professional show in a professional concert venue.
3.) Search for the Stars performers will have their group photo permanently on display on the E. A. Rawlinson Centre Wall of Fame.
4.) PRIZE PACKAGE
Following the gala performance, one performer in each of the SENIOR CATEGORY, the JUNIOR CATEGORY, the NOVICE CATEGORY and the FREEDOM 55 SONGWRITER COMPETITION will
be selected as the Star in that category.
THE SENIOR STAR (13-18 YEARS OLD)
-will be invited to perform at Festive Magic 2011
-will receive $1,000
-will receive the Senior Star Trophy
THE JUNIOR STAR (9-12 YEARS OLD)
-will be invited to perform in Festive Magic 2011
-will receive $500
-will receive the Junior Star Trophy
THE NOVICE STAR (5-8 YEARS OLD)
-will receive $100
-will receive the Novice Star Trophy
SONGWRITER STAR
-will receive $500
-will receive the Singer/Songwriter Trophy
-if that person has achieved a minimum predetermined score,
he/she will receive assistance to the value of $2000 in
recording a demo CD.
HELPFUL HINTS
1.) The selection of the participants in Search for the Stars will be
based on the performance given at the audition. The number
that you choose to perform for the audition is the number that
you will perform at the Search for the Stars Concert/Contest if
you are selected.
2.) Vocalists know your lyrics.
3.) Dress as you would expect to dress if you were performing at
the performance.
4.) Arrive sufficiently early for your audition so that you can be
relaxed, warmed up and ready to perform without feeling
rushed and stressed out.
5.) Be open to learn from the experience and most importantly
have fun!!
