Ag Minister upset over Ottawa funding

Dec 17, 2010 | 8:10 PM

What is good for Manitoba should be good for Saskatchewan is the message from the provincial Agriculture Minister.

This after the federal government has ponied up cash for racnhers affected by flooding in Manitoba, money not being given for Saskatchewan. Bob Bjornerud is upset given he's spent weeks lobbying Ottawa for ranchers in the same crisis situation in our province.

“Now their justification is that Manitoba has had four years of flooding and is short of feed, but certainly we would have liked to have seen the same program announced for Saskatchewan.”

The cash is for transporting cattle to feed elsewhere, which the Saskatchewan government has provided money for. But Ottawa is also giving money for feed, something ranchers here are desperately in need of.
