SIAST and SGEU still await agreement on mediator
There seems little end in sight to the ongoing labour dispute between SIAST and its instructors union.
After weeks of a back and forth, the two sides still can't agree on a mediator to help break the deadlock. SIAST claims the SGEU has not been quick to respond in attempts to find common ground on a mediator. The union is currently considering two different potential negotiators put forward by SIAST.
“Obviously we need to move forward with this process as soon as possbile so I'm hoping that they will be agreeable to one of those two names,” said SIAST associate Vice-President of Human Resources Gary Earles.
Earles says the dispute has left an added stress on students, even though its been business as usual at all campuses. While both sides want to make sure a solid solution is found, Earles would like to see a conclusion before the New Year.
