Prince Albert fighter prepares for his next opponent

Two men from Prince Albert will let their fists do the talking this weekend.

Don Sather and Joey Gobeil are travelling to Lloydminster to compete in a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) event.

“I'm getting pretty excited for it — it's going to be a tough fight but it's going be a good one,” said Gobeil who fights in the welterweight division.

Gobeil said, his opponent prefers a “ground – and – pound” style, so he hopes to stay on his feet as long as he can and use his striking skills.

This is Gobeil's third professional MMA fight.

“We are kind of behind in Saskatchewan. Alberta has double or triple the amount of MMA there compared to here, but we are starting to take off,” said Gobeil.

Gobeil said, there were some people who thought that the sport would not last and yet its pay-per-views outsell both boxing and wrestling.
