Deceased three-year-old’s mother takes stand in murder trial
The mother of the three-year-old boy allegedly killed by Jordan Crowe took the stand in Prince Albert Wednesday.
Jennine Donald said she had left the house for about an hour on the evening of Dec. 23, 2007. When she came back home, she discovered two ambulances in front of her house. Jennine teared up when she recalled how the paramedics told her about Dilyn Donald’s condition. Jennine said she had left her West Flat home to go downtown for the purpose of prostitution, and then stopped at a friend’s house to visit on the way back. She said she never told police the truth about why she left at first because she felt ashamed.
During the crown’s questioning, Jennine contradicted something she had told police in one of her statements. Crown Prosecutor Jennifer Claxton-Viczko asked Jennine if Crowe knew about her lifestyle, and Jennine replied he didn’t. However, Claxton-Viczko pointed out that the police had asked her how Crowe felt about her lifestyle, and she had replied that he didn’t like it.
Jennine said nothing seemed wrong with young Dilyn during the morning of Dec. 23. However, Jennine’s mother took Dilyn for about an hour, and when she dropped him back off, Jennine noted he seemed fussy, quiet, and not as active as usual. He also had diarrhea.
Jennine and Crowe had been common law partners for about three years, but have split up since Dilyn’s death.
Crowe was Dilyn’s stepfather, and Crowe and Jennine had a child together in June of 2006. Dilyn had lived with Jennine’s mother when he was about one-years-old until around August or September of 2007.
In court, Jennine said she never hit Dilyn in the head, or hit his head against anything, and has never witnessed anyone doing such actions. Defence lawyer Greg Chovin will begin his cross-examination Thursday morning.
