Effective since September 21, 2016, individuals experiencing distress can reach experienced crisis intervention counsellors by calling the toll free number 1-855-242-3310.
Services are available in both English and French, and callers may also inquire about the availability of service in Cree, Ojibway and Inuktitut.
This 24/7 crisis intervention counselling support is now available to First Nations and Inuit young people and adults through the First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line.
These services are intended to complement, not replace, existing services.
In the coming weeks, Health Canada will be working with the Assembly of First Nations and the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami to promote the Help Line more broadly.
