Lady Di’s Skincare

Jul 15, 2016 | 8:28 AM

Famous for her gorgeous skin, Lady Diana would have been 55 years old this month. How would her beauty routine differ today?

I read an interview by Stylist Magazine that was conducted with Makeup Artist Mary Greenwell  in 2012.

She said this: “Diana was very aware of her beauty regime, cleansing, toning and moisturizing twice a day. Diana would always take off her makeup at the end of the day. Lots of sleep, exercise, a good diet. After I started working with her, Diana cut back on drinking so her skin was 100%. If you smoke, drink or do anything to excess, you will destroy your most important beauty asset – your skin. She’d now be using serums and definitely using sun block every day.”

Skin is an organ, just like your pancreas or your liver. It’s not just a sack that holds all our innards. Treated with respect, it repays the favor by being healthy and looking good.

Take your makeup off at the end of the day. If you use makeup wipes, wash off the residue from the wipe itself. Most of these dissolve makeup but don’t clean the skin. They definitely don’t nourish skin.

Lack of sleep ages you overnight. If lack of sleep is chronic, it can have lasting repercussions, not just for your skin but for all aspects of health. Make sleep a big priority, not the last priority.

Exercise is proven to benefit appearance. Increased blood flow nourishes skin and hair.

Alcohol is not only a depressant. It’s a diuretic. It pushes the body excrete more fluids than normal. Alcohol dehydrates skin. Now, I know drinking water is not nearly as fun but water hydrates skin, makes it more plumped up and dewy.

Think of serums as repair and correction. When you are younger, you may not need any. Mid twenties is a great time to start some basic and preventative skincare. One of the best preventative skincare products is sun block. If you are early forties or older, it’s time to look at the correction and repair that serums can offer.
