TSN, CTV to broadcast Broncos’ season opener vs Hawks

Jun 22, 2018 | 5:05 PM

The Humboldt Broncos will officially retake the ice on Sept. 12 against the Nipawin Hawks, the same team they were en route to face in a playoff game on April 6 before the Broncos’ bus crashed, killing 16 and injuring 13 more.

Not only that, but the team will open the season before a national audience, as it was announced Friday it will be shown on TSN and CTV Saskatchewan, going to air at 6:30 p.m. including an hour pre-game show.

“We recognize that our Humboldt Broncos community extends far beyond the borders of Humboldt,” Broncos president Kevin Garinger said in a statement. “In gaining the wonderful support to broadcast our opening game of the 2018-19 season, we will be able to ensure that the rest of Saskatchewan and Canada are also able to continue their healing journey with us. We thank TSN, and are humbled by their willingness to support our needs and the needs of our nation, as we know there is healing in sport.”

The Broncos announced May 11 they would return next season. They held an 80-player camp at the end of May, and received 10 players from the other SJHL teams to form a roster.
