Cooke Municipal Golf Course set to open for 2018 season

May 2, 2018 | 12:00 PM

It’ll be an interesting start of the year for golfers at Prince Albert’s municipal golf course.

Drew Ryhorchuk, the retail manager at the golf course, said 10 holes will be open for play May 3 at 10 a.m. Golfers can play holes 12 through 17, moving on to the second hole before completing the loop with holes 10 and 11.

“We are only charging for a nine-hole rate, per time, if you’re a walk-on booker or just looking to get a tee time,” Ryhorchuk said.

Ryhorchuk said the goal is to have 16 holes open by May 11. The “soft” 10-hole opening this year takes place two days ahead of last year’s opening date.

The course fared well over the winter, the manager said. The greens came out perfectly, and excavation crews are completing work on the first and last holes. He said the work is slated to wrap up by the end of August.

“Winter went really well. The guys are happy, we’re happy,” he said.

The driving range is now open from dusk till dawn, Ryhorchuk added, so people can start sharpening up their swings for the season ahead.
