Mintos suffer first postseason loss in finals to Hounds

Mar 21, 2018 | 10:16 PM

It took to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League finals for the Prince Albert Mintos to suffer their first postseason defeat.

After sweeping both of the first two rounds, the Mintos fell to the Notre Dame Hounds 3-1 in Wilcox to kick off the best-of-five final series. Game 2 will be on Saturday, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.

Nolan Renwick scored twice for the Hounds, both on the power play, to lead the Hounds. He has nine goals in seven games played. The only player that has more goals this postseason is the Mintos’ Kyrell Sopotyk, who had the lone P.A. marker.

The Hounds are next to impossible to score against this year. They surrendered just 67 goals through 44 regular season games, good for 1.52 goals per game. That is by far a SMAAAHL record in the internet era since 2007. The Saskatoon Blazers gave up 76 goals in the 2007-08 season, which was the record until this season.
