Operation Christmas Child wrapping up

Nov 18, 2017 | 7:00 AM

Stacks of brightly coloured shoe boxes are rapidly filling up space at the Parkland Ambulance and Canada Safeway locations in Prince Albert.

Operation Christmas Child fills shoe boxes with toys and small goodies, ands sends the packages to needy children in developing countries. The deadline for submissions is noon Saturday, but Lyle Karasiuk with Parkland Ambulance there is room for flexibility.

“Of course those people that simply just hadn’t had time or heard the story and still wanted to make a contribution, are more than welcome to do so,” he said.

Karasiuk said the response thus far has been enthusiastic.

“We’ve already received, I would guess, 450 to 500 boxes and we have room for lots more,” he said.

The shoe boxes can be dropped-off at either one of the Parkland Ambulance locations in Prince Albert or at Safeway on Second Ave. W.

Store owner Wes Erlendson was equally impressed by the community’s generosity.

“It’s so gratifying because there are so many people happy to help out,” he said
