GoFundMe page set up for critically injured Sask. resident in Las Vegas

Oct 2, 2017 | 5:00 PM

Two people from northwestern Saskatchewan were injured in the attack in Las Vegas Sunday night and friends close to the family have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical and travel costs for one man who was critically injured.

Evan Davis, who spoke with paNOW and helped launch the fundraiser, said a group of around eight from the Leoville and Spiritwood area travelled to the city for the Route 91 Harvest Festival over the weekend.

He said Ryan Sarrazin, formerly of Spiritwood and who now lives in Alberta, was part of the group and was shot when the gunman opened fire on the crowd. As of Monday morning, Sarrazin is said to be in critical condition on life support in a Las Vegas hospital. His brother Mike, who works with Davis, was on his way down Monday. Sarrazin’s parents are with him and were part of the group.

“We figured the news was going to come and they were going to need help,” Davis said. “It hit home real fast. That is a long way away geographically, but it hits home.”

Leoville’s Carrie-Lynn Denis was also shot in the foot, though she is said to be “okay”.

A gunman sparked the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history when he opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, killing at least 58 including two Canadians and injuring over 500 others, police said Monday.

Officials say the suspected gunman, Stephen Craig Paddock, a 64-year-old retiree from Mesquite, Nevada, wasn’t on the radar of law enforcement. There also were no known links to any international terror organizations, officials said, despite a claim of responsibility by the Islamic State group.,
