Miller fully recovered from season ending injury

After a summer spent healing and helping others, Raider forward Carson Miller is healthy and ready for a strong sophomore season.

Miller suffered a shoulder injury last season that led to surgery on February 10th – his 17th birthday – marking an early end to his rookie campaign.

The forward from Yorkton, Sask. had a productive year up to that point, with 19 points in 46 games. Drafted 21st overall in the 2015 bantam draft, Miller lived up to expectations when his season came to a halt, but after a long offseason of rehabilitation, the shoulder is ready to go.

“I put a lot of work into it,” Miller said. “There was a lot of downtime, but I’m ready to get back at it for sure. I’m all healthy, got cleared a few weeks back and just taking it each step at a time, testing it as I go.”

While the early part of his offseason was spent focused on recovery, Miller used a portion of his summer giving back to others.

For a month, Miller worked at Good Spirit Bible Camp outside of his hometown running camps for children aged six to 16.

While there, he met several new people with a common interest in working hard and helping others. Miller and the other counsellors spent time with the children going to the beach and working on different skills like archery, horseback riding, and paintball.

Miller made mention of the hockey season being an all-in commitment from start to finish, but “when the time comes, there’s other things in life.”

With training camp underway, he is looking forward to his second season with the Raiders.

“[I am] definitely a lot more confident. More comfortable amongst the guys and knowing the ins and outs of what it takes to play at this level,” Miller said. “This learning experience last year was great…and I’m looking forward to doing something special this year with the guys we have.”
