Harvest expected soon after favourable weather

Aug 3, 2017 | 2:00 PM

After some timely showers, farmers are readying themselves for harvest season.

Crops are advancing quickly in Prince Albert and region, and some farmers are expecting to start harvest in the next couple of weeks. Crop yields are expected to be average.

Haying operations are wrapping up and yields are also average. Pasture conditions are rated as one per cent excellent, 58 per cent good, and 34 per cent fair.

The positive outlook is due to timely rainfalls across the region over the past few months. Precipitation this past week ranged from small amounts to 11 mm in the Humboldt area. The Nipawin area still holds the regional and provincial record for the most precipitation, 496 mm, since April 1. Some fields around Nipawin and Carrot River remain saturated.
