Saskatchewan athletes are getting ready to compete at this year’s Canada Summer Games held in Winnipeg, including some from Prince Albert.

Twenty-year-old local athlete, Daulton Sinoski, is one of the two players on the Men’s Beach Volleyball team. Although he has participated in competitions at the provincial level, this will be Daulton’s first time competing at the Canada Summer Games.

“I think it’s important to represent Prince Albert positively and kind of be an ambassador for volleyball in Prince Albert,” he said.

Sinoski said him and his partner Patrick Hunchak, play volleyball for the University of Saskatchewan, where he studies education. He said they have been playing with and against each other for years.

“I think definitely we’ve done all the necessary things to be there. We’ve watched teams play, had our experiences of playing, and then I think our coaching staff has done an amazing job on helping us on what we can improve on,” he said.

“We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses”

Sinoski’s pool consists of Manitoba, Yukon, Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Each match will be out of three sets and if they win their games, they will be playing until August 4. His first game will be on Sunday, July 30 at 12:00 p.m. against Yukon. Every game will be livestreamed online

Sinoski is shooting high and hopes to one day participate at the Olympics not only representing Prince Albert, but Canada as a whole.

There are 20 athletes from Prince Albert who are representing Saskatchewan at the competition, which starts July 28.

This will be Canada’s 50th year hosting the Canada Summer Games.
